Never Say Never with Din Tai Fung

I was recently back in Hong Kong where I was unable to fully unleash the glutton in me. yey!!! This is the 2nd of 5 parts.

Much to my regret, I didn’t have time during this trip to go on a food spree.

Case in point was having my first meal at a restaurant which I swore to never visit again in Hong Kong.

Promises, as they say,  are meant to be broken and I was no longer surprised to find myself back in Din Tai Fung as it was very near Rosedale on the Park.

Causeway Bay branch

Xiao Long Bao

I need to try DTF xiao long baos from other countries soon to see how it compares.

Mixed Vegetables
Even the vegetable loving people from the group didn't like this. Everyone only managed a spoonful as they said that the flavors were too weird.

Drunken Chicken

I'd trade this for chicken from any random stall in Jordan.

Fried Rice with Eggs and Shrimp
Eggs were perfectly cooked.

Fried Rice with Egg and Pork Chop
A bit under-seasoned for my liking.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup
Beef is tender but soup lacks the rich comforting flavors I long for.

Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noodle
Fresh dumplings stole the show.

As I no longer want to promise, I can only hope that this really is the last time I eat at Ding Tai Fung Hong Kong.

Din Tai Fung has two branches in Hong Kong. For more information, click here.

Back in HK with Rosedale on the Park

I was recently back in Hong Kong where I was unable to fully unleash the glutton in me. yey!!! This is the 1st of 5 parts.

I was back in Hong Kong earlier than expected. I stayed at Rosedale on the Park this time.

Rosedale on the Park is a “4 star business hotel" in Causeway Bay. We booked a junior suite for a reasonable rate of $170.00 (7,500php) per night.

Here are my thoughts on Rosedale on the Park:

LOCATION: Near Victoria Park, Rosedale on the Park is not exactly in the bustling part of Causeway Bay. The walk to the malls and shops isn't that far but there are two overpasses that one will encounter in order to get anywhere. I avoided climbing all those steps by taking the tram since there's a tram station just outside the hotel. The complimentary Airport Express Shuttle Bus also stops at Rosedale on the Park so transportation to and fro the airport is not a problem.

Construction Going On

SERVICE: Nonexistent. Aside from the friendly receptionist during check-in, it's every traveler for himself at Rosedale on the Park. No hospitality or offer of assistance from any of the staff whatsoever.

ROOM: The "suite" has obviously seen better days but it's not that bad if old furniture is your thing. Living room is spacious given Hong Kong standards and is the perfect place to relax and rest tired feet. The basic bedroom is such a disappointment but I forgot how uninviting it is when I saw the tiny bathroom. It's one of the smallest hotel bathrooms I've encountered.

I now wonder what a standard room at Rosedale on the Park looks like...

In Theme with Jalapeño

Not wanting to deal with dirty plates and trash, the undomesticated lot that we are, decided to eat out for Pristine's bridal shower

Many options came to mind, but in the end, what mattered was that we do not stray from the Some Like It Hot theme.

I had a "light bulb" moment and remembered  that I once had lunch at a good Mexican joint, Jalapeño.

Not only did the name of the restaurant fit the theme lol, but its Ortigas location made it just a stone's throw away from Astoria Plaza, the venue of the bridal shower.

A bridal shower isn't complete without a few drinks. Mojito was our alcohol of choice.

Thanks to the mojitos, I really wasn't able to concentrate so I'll just leave pictures of the food that we had at Jalapeño.

Jalapeño Cantina Mexicana is located at The Food Street, Ortigas Home Depot, Julia, Vargas Pasig.  For more information contact 470-3474 or visit its facebook page.
